My Discovery of Yorkshire
Hello! My name is Alec Vallintine and during the summer of 2021 I visited a region known as the "East Riding" of Yorkshire, England. I was inspired to visit this particular area after hearing an interview with author/researcher Paul Sinclair on an episode of The Unexplained with Howard Hughes. In the interview Paul described a multitude of mysterious and often bizarre events which continue to transpire in the vicinity of an area known as Flamborough Head, in Yorkshire.
I've had a deep interest in paranormal phenomena for as long as I can remember, so what Paul said really stimulated my curiosity. I'd previously visited such places as Skinwalker Ranch, Hoia Baciu Forest, and the San Luis Valley - areas long associated with high strangeness - and East Yorkshire sounded like a prime example of a paranormal "hot spot". This was a place I needed to visit! Wasting no time, I devoured Paul's books in a matter of days and made the trip to Yorkshire.
Meeting Paul Sinclair
Shortly after my arrival, Paul was gracious enough to meet with me (some random guy from California) and share his thoughts about the area. We had a fascinating conversation. In total I spent five nights camping on Flamborough Head, wandering the stunning clifftops and exploring a few of the many local areas of significance, and came away absolutely enchanted by the sights, sounds and stories of strange happenings. In no small part, my positive impression was also due to Paul himself. He struck me as a sincere and dedicated researcher, with a genuine interest in understanding the nature of the phenomena. I really appreciated his passionate, open-minded, and yet "no nonsense" approach to the subject. And here was a tantalizing body of evidence that seemed to reflect an authentic mystery, and I found myself wanting to get involved.
How I Got Involved
My background is mostly technical - I've worked for years in software engineering and data analysis - so my instinct was to ask Paul if anyone had ever taken "scientific" measurements in the area - electromagnetic, radiation, etc. Paul is a tireless researcher and has amassed an impressive collection of first-hand reports and relevant historical facts. His work has been vital in establishing, beyond reasonable doubt, the existence of a pattern of anomalous activity. Unfortunately, the time requirements of interviewing witnesses, digging through historical records, and building a relationship of trust with the community has left little opportunity for him to explore quantitative approaches in much depth. However, on occasions where EMF and RF measurements have been taken, they yielded intriguing results. This strongly suggests that a more sustained and systematic investigation along these lines would be very worthwhile. Therefore, I saw an opportunity to lend a hand with that endeavour and presented the idea to him. He liked the idea, which brings us to the present.
